In my Social Justice ePortfolio (SJ-eP) I analyze existing diversity and inclusion responses to Black Women Artists, Cultural Workers, Organizers and their communities at Build Your Archive located in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Greater Metro Atlanta as part of CIS 668 (Social Justice and Inclusion Advocacy) course during fall 2023. On this page, I provide my insights and reflections of the research project.
The opportunity to continue to expand my research of Build Your Archive as an information organization was valuable in many ways in one. It provided time to reflect on past offerings, services and overall ethos of the company that I would not have had otherwise. Even more, I was able to understand and apply where the theories of Black Feminism, Black Study and Black memory work intersected. Specifically in how I would like to continue to be in relationship with the Black Women Artists, Cultural Workers, and Organizers that I serve.
Through my discussion leadership I was able to utilize methods such as chaining and citation analysis to not only critically understand the information but also form an argument between the literature. It provided much clarity of as to why Black Studies and Black Feminist Text has and will continue to make contributions to the Library and Information science field.
I believe that Alternative Strategies and Forms of education, information seeking and archival methods that prioritize the experiences of Black Women will inform the next phase of Build Your Archive.
